4/14/2020 0 Comments Privacy and Unity in the Media Recently, I read two articles pertaining to the news. Of course, there will always be pieces of the article that can be agreed upon while the other half may include disagreements. The first article that I read was titled, “Big Tech Could Break Democracy.Knowledge is our best defense.” To sum up the article, it was written about privacy within the government and the internet. While I was reading this article I tried to understand the idea of the whole article. What stood out to me the most were the questions that the author himself thought about. If this policy is considered to keep the privacy rights of government and political issues away from internet sources what will the world say. We live in a world now where privacy isn’t really a thing anymore. You can record someone and post them on your Facebook page without getting into serious trouble now.
Some of the concerns that were brought toward were the rights that an individual held to privacy versus a company whose data is used against them due to their interests. The most famous freedom of speech that a lot of people hold near and dear to their heart versus an online community’s opinion about their standards. By cutting the world off from certain issues, conversations and information could really cause an uproar because this is the only world we have and it is all we know. If something is going on, shouldn’t we know about it. The other article was titled, “Six Reasons Young Adults Think The News Media Is Dividing Our Country.” In the beginning of the article it spoke about the concerns that many young adults have in the world pertaining to the news media. They feel as though it plays a major role in democracy and the unity that is in our country. As I read through the article, one particular section stopped me in agreement. Each reason was labeled by a number and followed with statistical information pertaining to the title . The number I stopped on was number 4 which was titled, “The majority of African American and Hispanic participants do not feel like media sources accurately or fairly portray their groups, when they do get coverage.” When I look at the media today and even those in the past it’s very clear to see that African Americans aren’t always portrayed well on the news media. When news reporters go to neighborhoods where African Americans are mostly dominated, it seems as though they find the “worst” subjects to help them cover their story. Most of the time, they will interview people who represent the neighborhood great with nice detailed words but where is the fun in that. They would rather find someone who is comical and not neatly put together in appearance or words because it’s more entertaining. Although some of the news content of these individuals come off as funny, it is also painful to watch because the world is laughing at African Americans as a whole. It’s like that old saying, one bad apple ruins the whole bunch.

4/13/2020 0 Comments Fake News:Corona Virus The world hasn’t experienced six months during the year of 2020 and there’s been a lot of uproar. Trump basically offers an invitation for war with Iran, the legendary basketball player Kobe Bryant passes away and now there’s a world changing virus called Covid-19(coronavirus). This virus has caused businesses, schools, jobs, vacations and other exciting daily routines to completely stop. What hasn’t seemed to pause its existence, is fake news. It’s nothing new to the ear but it is always shocking to see just how low people will go. Many writers will do anything to get their content out on the media for the world to see. Why? Because business is business.
With Covid-19 going around, it is a good opportunity to pass out fake news. On social media platforms, viewers can definitely find a lot of stories about this virus. Although most of these stories may seem credible , they are not. There are news articles stating that this virus is issued out by the government to keep citizens inside to test 5g towers. Other stories include that this was all a set up to get the Earth back to its normal functions or the virus is just the flu with more “punch.” Now am I saying that all of these things aren’t POSSIBLY true? No, what I am saying is this-you can’t believe everything until you have the facts. In a recent article titled, “THE CORONAVIRUS FAKE-NEWS PANDEMIC IS VERY REAL,” spoke exactly on what its title says: fake news. One of the things that stood out to me the most was when the writer, Caleb Ecarma spoke on President Donald Trump’s false claims about the virus. Ecarma listed some of the false statements Trump has stated to the news such as the virus dying in hotter weather and the virus cases going down in America. LIES! While on Facebook, I encountered information where Donald Trump had said that this pandemic would be over by April. Maybe I’m a little tired but Mr.President seems to be wrong about the date seeing that it is April 13. With all of this fake news floating around on almost every media platform known, it’s hard to know what is real. News channels are even posting false deaths on live television by using pictures of people who hadn’t died from the virus. All of this causes people to become even more scared for their lives. When a vaccine is found to treat this virus, there will be those who will not get it due to the news reports they’ve seen. Apparently, if you get the vaccine you will be chipped so that the government can help keep track of you. Once again, no one knows if this is completely true until we have all of the facts. One of the best things to do, is to stick with more credible sites that can be trusted. The only problem with that is wondering if the news that’s being provided is real or not... 2/24/2020 0 Comments A Woman's Love For Football Football began around the 1860s and even though the style of the game has changed one thing remains: all males. Females can play football if they want too but will coaches allow it. The most recent player who is being considered is Becca Longo. She has been noted to be the first woman to receive a scholarship to a collegiate school to play football. Recently, they stated that she may be the first woman to be in the NFL due to her insane athletic ability. All my life, I’ve always wanted to play but here’s the problem. I’m a female. As a female, it is expected for you to grow up being a lady who gets married and has children.
According to my family, you can’t do that if you play football. Why? Well they believe that my eggs will be damaged and there chances for grandkids will be less. How selfish can you get!? The world of sports has allowed women to play softball, run track, play soccer and even do basketball but when it comes to football there’s an argument. Many believe that women aren’t built for the sport. If a 160 pound woman runs into a 285 line man she will be crushed. Honestly, they may have a point but why can’t we just let women decide that for themselves. There are men who are way smaller than some women yet they still play. No one says anything to them. They might say they are going to get crushed but then they add that manly statement in there. “He is just being a man.” Give me a break. I’m just being a woman who wants to play football even if it means limping after the game. My life my decision. 2/21/2020 0 Comments WATER vs. LAND ANIMALSVegetarian, flexitarian, pescitarian, vegan and the list goes on. In the world today, there are many people who fit into at least one of these categores.Food has always been known to be a way for people to fellowship, get fat and be merry but somewhere down the line things have changed. The world has gone from, “everything is good to eat thus says the Lord,” to “that’s wrong! How would you feel if someone did you like that!?” Yes, the world has changed A LOT. You have some who still believe that everything is okay to eat. If you are wondering if I am one of those people then yes. I grew up in a home where food was sometimes hard to find. If you did find something to eat, you didn’t have time to question its substance on whether it was healthy, high in carbs, vegan or gluten free. Nope, you had to eat it or go hungry. I took my chances to eat it. There were times, when we didn’t have anything but flour, water, a little oil and some bullets. This is a recipe for squirrel meat drenched in gravy with homemade biscuits. I can hear the comments opinionating about my family’s starch intake. Trust me, we knew but as stated before, it's either eat or go hungry.
The other day, I had an argument with my friend who is a pescitarian. If you are not familiar with this term, it simply means that she only eats seafood. She believes eating animals such as cows, chickens, pigs and others are just wrong because of the killing process. I asked her, if she thought killing water creatures such as crab, shrimp, crawfish, octopus, etc wasn’t cruel. She looked at me for a minute and had no reply. Fishermen may not hit these creatures over the head or shoot them but they capture them in a way that doesn’t follow the golden rule:treat others how you want to be treated. If the world is looking at animals from the viewpoint of “imagine if that was you” when it comes to land animals why aren’t people stepping up for sea creatures? Is it because we can’t really see what's going on in the ocean as we can on land? Does boiling a sea creature in hot cayenne lemon peppered seasoned water seem less harmful than hitting a cow over the head till his legs stop shaking? I really need answers because at this point you all are being hypocritical. Now, vegans are very interesting to me. They do not believe in consuming any type of animal or animal product. Honestly, I salute vegans because they are very strong minded. I could not imagine eating a vegan chicken wing while there is a plate of real crispy fried wings sitting right across from me. The wings can even be organic, just know my desire for them will be stronger than my mind who is telling me no. If i had to stop eating meat, I would choose the pescitarian route because I for sure couldn’t give up crawfish. That is my weakness. Those who are vegan have created foods to substitute animal products. In your local Walmart, you can find vegan cheese, eggs, milk, steak, taco meat, hot dogs, sausage and the list goes on. I do not discriminate against those who do not eat meat and want to live that healthy lifestyle but a bigger question rises inside of me. Why recreate meat if you can just eat it? I watch hundreds of videos on ways to create these vegan products and some of them aren’t that pleasing to the eye. Before you ask, yes, I have tried a few vegan foods. Some of them are good and then some make you want to buy a whole new tongue. Another question I want to ask those who are vegan is this-how can you say you are vegan if you still eat mayonnaise? Trust me, I have seen it with my own two eyes. They will sit across from me with a black bean burger layered in non-vegan mayo while down talking to me about my 100% all beef patty. Honey, you are no vegan! TIME FOR YOUR POSITIVE PUNCH It doesn’t matter if you're vegan, vegetarian or even pescetarian, what matters is your respect for another person’s lifestyle. If someone wants to eat meat, let them. Most of the time they love animals just as much as they want to eat them. If someone believes that plant based food is better for them and their kids, don’t all the weird just listen to what they have to say and say cool. Who knows, maybe the two of you could switch lifestyles. |
